About Us
Benfieldside Primary School offers a balance of good basic skills and a topic based approach to humanities, the arts, and sciences.
In our Early Years setting pupils develop good social skills, alongside a developing understanding of the world. They develop pre-literacy and numeracy skills in a play based environment.
We teach reading through the use of synthetic phonics incorporating elements of Jolly Phonics, Letters and Sounds and Bug Phonics. We feel that no one approach is enough and strive to give our children a number of strategies to succeed in both English and Mathematics.
Later in school, we use ability groupings to set for Maths in order to maximise progress for every individual.
The class pages of this site will show you what your child is learning this term and over the year. If you would like more information about the curriculum for your child, please do not hesitate to contact the school office to make an appointment to meet the Class Teacher.
